TRANSPORTATION
Toronto has an excellent public transportation system—the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). A single TTC fare can take you anywhere in the city, one-way, on subways, buses, and streetcars. Transfers are easy, but make sure you get a transfer when you purchase your fare. Exact change is required on buses and streetcars.
GO Transit is Ontario’s inter-regional bus and train service, linking Toronto with outlying areas. GO trains and buses depart daily from Toronto’s Union Station at regular intervals.
Parking in downtown Toronto can be limited to specific times. Often, drivers must purchase and display a ticket from a nearby parking machine. Read and obey all posted parking signs! Public parking lots are available throughout the city, and a "Green P" logo denotes a city-owned lot.
Taxi fares are standard, metered, and non-negotiable. Reputable taxi drivers will start the meter at the beginning of a ride and stop it at the destination. If the taxi’s meter is broken, refuse to hire it. 10-15% tips are customary for good service.
Downtown Toronto has PATH, an underground walkway that links 27km (16 miles) of subterranean shopping, services, and entertainment. Distinctive, brightly coloured PATH signs guide your way throughout the city.
