On if he is ready to roll for the start of training camp:
Actually, I’ve got to get this out of the way first. A couple of weeks ago, I had to have a quick procedure done on my groin. [It’s] nothing major. I’m going to be limited for a couple of weeks at camp. I feel great now. I feel fine, but the trainers want to take it slow, make sure everything heals properly, so that I’m 100 percent for the start of the season.

On the amount of time he will be missing at camp:
“I think – you’re going to have to check with [the trainers] – but I think I’ll be doing stuff on the side, just getting back into it on my own. But I feel like I’ll be back with the team pretty fast because it was a really, really minor thing. It was to solve a small problem now so it doesn’t become a bigger one later but, like I said, I feel great right now. They just want to take it real slow and be really cautious with it.

On if it was something he did in the weight room or on the field:
I just tweaked something in OTA’s and mini-camps and kept going on it, didn’t think much of it, and it just kept getting a little bit worse and worse. Then we finally decided to, like I said, take care of it now so that I can get through the season perfectly fine and not have something creep up on me later on in the year.

On when the injury and procedure took place:
The procedure was two weeks ago, two weeks ago today. But when I first did whatever I did, when I first tweaked it, you could say that it was in the middle of OTA’s.

On his thoughts about falling behind with the new 3-4 defensive scheme:
It definitely would be a lot better if I could start fresh with the guys. I feel like I was able to pick up the defense pretty well in OTA’s and mini-camp, but I definitely need to be out there, especially now that we have pads on and it’s the real deal. I need to be out there getting comfortable hitting again, fitting in this style of defense, so I am going to be a little bit behind, that’s for sure. I wish I could start tomorrow with the guys. I will feel like I will be a little bit behind but hopefully I’ll be able to catch up when I get back out there.

On if he is a PUP candidate:
They told me they’re not going to put me on that because, if we do walkthroughs or anything like that at half speed, I will be able to do that. Yes, so I won’t be on that list.

On whether his procedure is more preventative than anything:
Absolutely, you never want to miss time. But with the options they gave me, they said to take care of it now, miss a couple of weeks at camp and be great for the season, as opposed to letting it linger and get worse on me in week 7 or 8, and then it gets real bad. So, I just said let’s solve the problem now, miss a little bit of time now and make sure I’m 100 percent for opening day.

On his thoughts about the national publications picking the Bills to finish in the lower half of the AFC East and NFL:
If you take our record from last year and say we had a lot of problems going into this offseason – quarterback, offensive line, new defense – I mean, why wouldn’t you say that. But it’s our job to go out and prove them wrong and say we have a lot of confidence in our abilities and what we can do on the field. But the biggest…You’ve got to go out and perform. That’s obviously the biggest thing. We’ve got to go out, win football games from the start, and that will all change.
