The Buffalo Bills Rookie Club, consisting of the entire 2008 Bills rookie class, will speak to student athletes and deliver new equipment.
The Buffalo Bills Rookie Club makes numerous appearances in the Buffalo area throughout the season and enables the team’s newest players to get involved in and learn about the communities where their fans live.
On Tuesday afternoon the Bills Rookies, in conjunction with NFL Canada, will discuss the importance of sport and activity with the student-athletes at Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School in Mississauga, and deliver $3,000 in new equipment for the school’s fledgling football program.
The appearance continues the NFL’s long tradition of supporting grassroots football in Canada. Since 1997 more than 100 NFL players, including Ronnie Lott, Warren Moon and Tony Gonzalez, have appeared on behalf of the league to run football clinics, lead flag football tournaments, and donate equipment. Last year the Bills Rookie Club gave a boost to the football program at Sir Sanford Fleming Academy in Toronto.
Over the next five years the NFL’s and Buffalo Bills support of high school football in Ontario will be complemented by the Bills Toronto Series. On December 3, 2008, five provincial high school football championship games, called the OFSAA Bills Toronto Series Football Bowls, will be played at Rogers Centre in Toronto. On December 7, 2008, the Bills will play the Miami Dolphins at Rogers Centre in the first NFL regular season game to be played in Canada.
